About Us

The Oyster Resource & Recovery Center (ORRC) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies is a premier initiative offering comprehensive training in oyster hatchery and farming. Led by renowned experts, our program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful oyster farming, covering topics such as hatchery management, seed production, cultivation methods, and environmental factors. Through a blend of theoretical instruction, practical experiences, and industry collaborations, we prepare students to excel in the field while promoting sustainable aquaculture practices.

Funded by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, this groundbreaking project focuses on workforce development in oyster aquaculture, contributing to the enhancement of coastal ecosystems and environmental resilience. Join our commitment to preserving marine habitats through cutting-edge education and research for a sustainable future.

The ORRC initiative is led by the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) whose distinctive interdisciplinary approach sets it apart from other marine research institutions. HRI has been at the center of oyster aquaculture in Texas since it was established in 2019.
